Citizen Kane Discussion Post

mise en scène refers to what we see onscreen in a film. It’s the film’s visuals; meaning, all of the elements that appear on camera and their arrangement. Using the S.E.E format analyze this clip below:                                 The scene is filmed at a low angle to make us feel weak , like a little rodent getting in on a secret. The dialogue and the little pauses formed in hesitation keep us in suspense. Their attire signifies that this movie takes place somewhere around after WW2. The fact that this whole scene is shot in black and white gives a noir vibe, like a mysterious crime drama.

Mise En Scene

         Mise En Scene refers to various arrangements of scenery and stage props directors apply to give a certain mood to a scene. Mise En scene can be used to contribute an idea to the audience, give a perspective to them, and see what action the characters in the scene are doing. Techniques such as film angle, camera level, and zoom-ins are used.
